Principal News
News from the Principal
Team Gym:
Team Gym began last Friday for 34 of our Year 4-6 students. It was great to see the energy, enthusiasm, cooperation and manners displayed by our students. Well done to our students and I’m looking forward to seeing how they progress with their routines.
School Photos:
Congratulations to all our students for being so well presented and the great behaviour shown during our school photos. Our photographers were very impressed with how smoothly everything went as well as how polite and friendly our students were. Keep up the great work Drayton!
May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month:
Our department and its staff play an important role in building a Queensland where everyone is safe from domestic and family violence. This year’s theme is ‘Take positive action today to build a safer Queensland’.
The Science and Engineering Challenge Discovery Day:
The Science and Engineering Challenge is a day-long competition designed to provide Year 6 (or Year 5) students with a positive experience of science and engineering and to consider a career in science or engineering, and to study the enabling sciences in senior high school. Our school is one of eight school “teams” competing against each other on Tuesday 20 May.
Each school ‘team’ is divided into eight groups of between 2 to 4 students per group. Each group will then do either one full-day activity, or two half-day activities (i.e. one activity in the morning session, and a different one in the afternoon session). Students are assigned a colour to identify which activity(s) they will do during the morning and afternoon sessions.

Students are awarded points for each activity and the school with the most cumulative points at the end of the day is declared the winner. We wish our Drayton students attending all the best with this fantastic event.
Premier's Reading Challenge:
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is running from 6 May to 22 August. The challenge encourages children and students up to Year 9 with varying levels of ability from pre-readers to avid readers to engage and share in the wonderful world of books.
Under 8s Day:
Our school will be celebrating Under 8s Day on Thursday 29 May from 9am-11am. More information will come out soon to provide details of the morning’s events. We look forward to seeing you there.
Yours in education
Paul Wells
Student Disco Friday Week 8
More information to come regarding the Student Disco Friday 13 June Week 8.
Uniforms at Drayton State School
Students of Drayton State School are expected to wear the full, correct school uniform with pride. When wearing the uniform, students convey a strong message about themselves as well as the high standards set by our school community. The uniform is designed to support a healthy and safe learning environment that allows students to participate in all school activities.
Sport & Everyday:
Shirts: Drayton SS gold polo shirt with bottle green sleeves, featuring a piped collar.
Shorts: Bottle green shorts with side slit pockets.
Bottle green skorts
Pleated netball skirts: Pleated skirts are available from clothing stores.
School Hat – reversible with house colour available.
Winter:
Green Tracksuit top printed with the school's name and emblem
Green Trackpants (Fleecy or microfibre)
Drayton SS Spray Jacket
Please Note: * Generic plain gold or green polo shirts are NOT the school’s uniform shirt & should not be worn.
* Longer leg ‘cargo’ style shorts with external pockets are NOT the school’s uniform & should not be worn.
Year 6 shirts – All year 6 students may wear a specially ordered “Senior” Polo shirt, available after ordering and payment in Term 1.
Footwear:
All students need to be wearing comfortable footwear to school that is both neat in appearance and provides appropriate safety and protection for their feet. We need our students to be able to move safely within and around the school environment in a range of activities, knowing that their footwear are well protected at all times. As such, closed in, laced-up runners / sandshoes must be worn to, from & within school each day.
Canvas / synthetic ‘slip-on’ style shoes are NOT a safe nor acceptable form of footwear - they offer no grip and minimal protection for your child’s feet and are NOT to be worn to school.
