Principal News

Welcome to this week’s newsletter edition. Our students have been working extremely hard over the last two weeks to complete their Term 3 assessment tasks, we had a very successful Colour Run last Friday and finished off the term with both our Prep (Colour run fundraiser winners) and Year 3/4/5 (Containers for Change winners) classes enjoying a well-earned pizza party. So far, this term has been a very successful one and we want to keep this trend going right into next term! We wish our Drayton SS families a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holidays and look forward to seeing everyone back here for the start of Term 4 on Tuesday 7 October.

Prep Enrolments

It’s that time of year again! If your child is turning 5 by June 30 2026, come into our office and pick up an enrolment pack. It is vital to have a successful start to prep and to have your enrolment information sorted as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.

Parent Teacher Conversations

A big thank you to those parents/carers who took the time to speak with their child/rens teachers on Tuesday 16 September for our Parent Teacher conversations. It was a great opportunity to celebrate your child/rens successes and connect to ensure that we can continue to provide the best service possible.

R U OK Day

R U OK Day happened last Thursday 11 September. Did you get the chance to ask R U Ok? Ask R U Ok any day because life happens every day. A lot can happen in a year, a month, a week. Whether it’s your friend, family member, colleague, partner, or teammate, the people you care about go through life’s ups and downs every day.

By having regular, meaningful conversations, you build trust and normalise talking about what’s really going on, so when the people in your world find themselves struggling, they know you’re someone they can talk to.

So whilst R U OK? Ask R U Ok? Any day of the year because a conversation could change a life.

Queensland Mental Health Week

Each year, Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) brings communities together and sparks important conversations. In 2025, QMHW will run from Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 October. This year’s theme ‘Connect for mental health’ emphasises the proactive measures we can adopt to nurture and support positive mental health and wellbeing for ourselves and our communities. With hundreds of events set to occur during QMHW there will be plenty of opportunity for our community to connect in-person and online.

PE Update

Thanks to all Drayton Dragons for their hard work this term. It has been great to see students’ skills, confidence and personal fitness improve over these past ten weeks. We ended week 10 with some friendly competition out on the oval with our European handball mini tournaments, it was a great success!

Reminder that students will be participating in both swimming lessons and P.E. classes next term.

Containers for Change Update

This term, our classes have collected an incredible 9,186 cans!

Together, this has raised $918.60 to support the Year 6 excursion and the Year 5/6 2026 camp. A huge thank you to every student, family, and staff member who contributed — your efforts really make a difference.

Class Competition

Congratulations to our top collectors this term!

• 3rd place – 1/2A with 1,434 cans
• 2nd place – Prep with 1,585 cans
• 1st place – 3/4/5A with an incredible 2,507 cans

Our winning class, 3/4/5A, will be celebrating with a pizza party this week.

Well done to everyone for your amazing effort and commitment to recycling!

Wacky Hair and Crazy Sock Day

Last week’s Wacky Hair and Crazy Sock Day was a wonderful success, with our school community raising $168 for the Toowoomba charity Hope for Our Children.

Congratulations to everyone for your amazing effort! It was fantastic to see the school bursting with bright colours, creativity, and fun.

Should your child start Prep in 2026? Your child must be 5 years old by June 30th in the year they start Prep. If you are unsure, please use the online calculator on the Queensland Government website to check when your child can start.

Provide your name and email to the office so we can email you information and an enrolment interview booking link for Prep 2026.

School Colour Run

What a great day was had on Friday at the School Colour Run.  Over $11,000 was raised which is an amazing effort for our small school.

Upcoming Events

School Working Bee

12th October 2025In preparation for our big 175th birthday, we will be hosting a school working bee on Sunday 12th October, Sausage Sizzle and drinks for helpers.  In the lead up, we are asking for any unwanted "Free Plant" vouchers from the Council.  These come with your rates & are available to use in October. If you have any you are not needing, it would be so appreciated if you could drop them into the office, so we can make use of them around the school grounds.  

175th Birthday - 2026

We are in the process of starting a committee to help organise this big milestone. If you would like to contribute your ideas for this, please reach out.

We haven’t had a price rise since August 2023 as we try to keep the
