Principal News
It’s the start of week 8 and with only 14 school days left until the end of Term 3 all our students are well into completing their assessments and making sure that are seeking the feedback that they need to be successful. A reminder that our Parent Teacher conversations are scheduled for Tuesday 16 September. We look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you and how we can continue to help them to be successful.
Why Does School Attendance Matter?
Regular school attendance gives students a better chance at life. Students achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day because:
- they have increased access to learning opportunities
- they maintain friendships
- they stay connected to the curriculum progression
- they develop self-efficacy as a learner
- they have better long-term life outcomes
Crazy Hair and Sock Day + Movie Night:
Our Student Council will be hosting a Crazy Hair and Sock Day this Wednesday 3 September as part of their fundraising efforts for Hope for Our Children, a Toowoomba-based charity.
All money raised from our upcoming Movie Night on Friday 12 September 5-7pm, will also proudly support this foundation. Their focus is on ensuring vulnerable children and young people in our region know they are seen, valued, and not alone.
In just the past few weeks, Hope for Our Children has received requests for over 100 “Bags of Hope.” These backpacks are filled with essentials such as clothing, toiletries, a soft toy, and a book, and are provided to children entering care, facing crisis, or fleeing unsafe situations.
Your support for these initiatives—whether through promoting events, encouraging students, or simply joining in the fun—is making a real difference for young people in our community.
Thank you for helping us show our students the impact of kindness in action.
Movie night notices will go out this week. If you are available to help out that would be great. It will run from 5-7pm.
Student Free Day:
A reminder that this Friday 5 September is a student free day, and we look forward to seeing all our students back at school on Monday 8 September ready to learn. We hope all our families enjoy the long weekend.
Prep 2026 Enrolments:
Our Prep 2026 Enrolments begin next week running from Monday 8 September until Friday 12 September. If you haven’t already, please ring our school to arrange a suitable time to book an interview for your child for 2026.
Drayton SS P&C Major Fundraiser:
The Colour Run is back again!! Our P&C’s Major Fundraiser this year will be a School Fun Run, specifically a Crazy Colour Day! So far as a school we have raised $8, 289, which is brilliant!
This means that all four Drayton State School teaching staff (myself included) will be slimed. Congratulations Drayton, such a tremendous effort.
Week 1 Competition Winners – Icy Pole Party was won by 5/6A – well done 5/6A.
Week 2 Wristband competition winner - $500 prize credit was won by Kalel – well done Kalel.
Week 3 – For any students that had raised $20 or more on their profiles, 10 lucky students won a free tuckshop lunch. Draw is completed by our Colour Run, so it will be completely random.
The last two competitions – any class with funds raised over $1000 go into the draw for a class pizza party. Currently there are four classes who are in the running: PrepA, Prep/1A, 3/4A and 3/4/5A.
The top 20 fundraisers by the 11 September will have access to a VIP area and will also receive a VIP goodie bag.
Our Colour Run will take place on Friday 12th September 2025, which is going to be the best day of the school year for the kids.
While our priority is to give the kids a fun, memorable day, we also realise that fundraising is an important component of the event. Funds raised last year helped towards our P&C Contribution of $45,000 to the oval works. This year our P&C are hopeful to hit their fundraising goal of $10,000 which would help our P&C provide the following:
- New Shade tents for the sports days
- Tech Resources – iPads
- Sports Equipment & Opportunities
Please be assured, that all children will be included in the fun on the day, regardless of profiles created or funds raised.
Thanks so much for your support! We appreciate it,
Drayton SS P&C Executive
Yours in education
Paul Wells
Prep/1A "100 Days Brighter"
There were smiles all round as the Prep/1 class celebrated being '100 Days Brighter' with their Year 5/6 buddies. The 5/6 students helped the Prep/1s with a weaving activity.

PE News
Congratulations to all students who competed in the Inner Downs athletic trials. The icy temperatures and harsh wind made it difficult for all athletes to stay warm! Our 200m runners showed great determination despite such harsh conditions and displayed their best efforts when crossing the finish line!
Thank you to the Darling Downs cricket community for visiting DSS in week 7. Our students were given the opportunity to practice their batting, bowling and running skills during a variety of interactive cricket games. All students were sent home with a pamphlet regarding upcoming cricket sessions that will be held at the UniSQ Toowoomba in term 4.
For the remaining weeks of this term, students will continue to develop their fundamental movement skills, personal fitness and inclusive teamwork while playing European handball.
Keep up the hard work everyone!

School Working Bee
12th October 2025In preparation for our big 175th birthday, we will be hosting a school working bee on Sunday 12th October, Sausage Sizzle and drinks for helpers. In the lead up, we are asking for any unwanted "Free Plant" vouchers from the Council. These come with your rates & are available to use in October. If you have any you are not needing, it would be so appreciated if you could drop them into the office, so we can make use of them around the school grounds.
