Principal News
Dear Drayton SS Community
We’ve reached the halfway mark of Term 3 and our students are working hard in class to be successful. A reminder that our Parent Teacher conversations are scheduled for Tuesday 16 September. We look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you and how we can continue to help them to be successful.
Why Does School Attendance Matter?
Regular school attendance gives students a better chance at life. Students achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day because:
- they have increased access to learning opportunities
- they maintain friendships
- they stay connected to the curriculum progression
- they develop self-efficacy as a learner
- they have better long-term life outcomes.
Book Week:
Drayton SS Book Week begins today with our Book Fair in our school library being open from Monday-Wednesday 3pm-3:45pm. To conclude the week, on Friday 22 August is Book Week dress up. We will have our Book Week Dress up parade beginning at 9am. Which character will you be dressed up as this year?
School Opinion Survey: SOS is a confidential survey and no-one at your school or in the department will know the responses you have provided. Responses from all staff, students, parents are aggregated and reported back to the school
KEY DATES: 22 August - SOS 2025 - Survey period closes (invitations were emailed out to parents between 21-25 July).
Prep ‘play and stay’ morning:
On Wednesday 27 August we conclude our Prep ‘play and stay’ transition event for students who will be looking at enrolling at our school for Prep in 2026. The Prep ‘play and stay’ morning runs from 10am-11am and is a great opportunity for prospective parents/carers and students to come and observe a morning in the life of prep and chat with our staff. We look forward to seeing you there.
Facilities Update
Our B and C blocks have finally all been painted and are looking lovely! Our oval project which was part of our masterplan was completed early last week, with our students being able to enjoy both our new playgrounds and landscaping features. It has been very popular with our students who has waited very patiently for this project to be completed. Great to see our students enjoying the playgrounds.
Student Free Day:
A reminder that Friday 5 September is a student free day, and we look forward to seeing all our students back at school on Monday 8 September ready to learn. We hope all our families enjoy the long weekend.
Drayton SS P&C Major Fundraiser:
The Colour Run is back again!! Our P&C’s Major Fundraiser this year will be a School Fun Run, specifically a Crazy Colour Day!
The event will take place on Friday 12th September 2025, which is going to be the best day of the school year for the kids.
While our priority is to give the kids a fun, memorable day, we also realise that fundraising is an important component of the event. Funds raised last year helped towards our P&C Contribution of $45,000 to the oval works. This year our P&C are hopeful to hit their fundraising goal of $10,000 which would help our P&C provide the following:
- New Shade tents for the sports days
- Tech Resources – Ipads
- Sports Equipment & Opportunities
On 11th August 2025, Mr Wells showed a video to launch the Colour run. Our students received booklets and a letter to take home. Teachers also received a class kit which had a poster for their classroom wall.
We will be holding challenges for the 4 weeks from launch to event day and it would mean a lot if you can all students can be involved! As the P&C’s goal is $10,000 we will be celebrating when we hit each milestone of $2,000 by nominating a lucky teacher to be slimed- Mr Wells has already offered his services, but more staff will be part of the fun! 😊
Week 1 kicked off with a profile competition - setting our students up for success, and the great news is the profiles don’t even need money raised on them! The class that has the most profiles by the end of the week all get an icy pole!
In the second week of fundraising, we will hold a Wristband Competition. These will be handed out in class, so our students go home wearing the wristband. The parents will scan the QR Code to login or sign up and enter the unique wristband code into the online draw, for a chance to win a $500 Prize Credit!
Week 3 will see any student with at least $20 raised, enter a draw to win 1 of 10 free tuckshop lunches.
Any class that hits the class fundraising target of $1,000, will go into the draw to win a class PIZZA party.
Please be assured, that all children will be included in the fun on the day, regardless of profiles created or funds raised.
Thanks so much for your support! We appreciate it,
Drayton SS P&C Executive
Yours in education
Paul Wells
P.E. Update
So far, our Drayton Dragons have hit the ground running into term 3. Students have put weeks of preparation into each athletics event, and as a collective our staff were extremely proud of the efforts that were displayed at our week 2 athletics carnival. Thank you to all parents and caregivers who took the time to come and cheer our students on, we appreciate all your support! Congratulations to students who additionally qualified for the inner downs athletic trials taking place Tuesday August 19th at the O’Quinn Street oval in Toowoomba. We know you will make our Drayton community proud!
In week 7, we look forward to welcoming Alex Newton, the cricket manager for the Darling Downs area. Alex and his colleague will be joining us during our Monday August 25th P.E. sessions to run some fun and engaging games, while helping students to get excited about cricket and promote the sport.
Thanks everyone,
Taylor Manley (P.E. teacher)
