Drayton State School Creed
With pride and effort, we are safe, respectful and responsible
Congratulations to our Drayton Dragon Award Recipients
Principal News
Dear Drayton State School Families,
As the effects of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred are continuing to be felt across many communities in Southeast Queensland, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our staff for getting our school prepared before and after this weather event. I would especially like to acknowledge and thank the tireless work of our Cleaners, Noeleen and Kristi-Lee and our School Officer, Jim who have allowed our staff and students to come back to a clean and tidy school. This was no small task and I greatly appreciate all their hard work.
Year 5/6 Camp
Our Year 5/6 students to Camp Cooby on Thursday 20 March to Friday 21 March is almost here, please let the school know if you need any assistance in getting ready for this camp.
Kids Hope Mentoring Program
I’m pleased to let our community know that as a school we are continuing our partnership with Belong Church to facilitate the Kids Hope mentoring program at our school. The Kids Hope program will begin with selected students beginning the week of Monday 17 March.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN begins for our Year 3 and Year 5 students this Wednesday 12 March and running until Wednesday 19 March. It will be very important for our Year 5 students to be in attendance at school from Wednesday 12-Friday 14 March to ensure that we are able to complete all their NAPLAN tests well before our Year 5/6 camp. Please see the NAPLAN Schedule below:

Cross Country
Our school will be hosting our annual Drayton SS Cross Country on Monday 31 March between 10am-2pm. We look forward to seeing as many students participate as possible.

PE News
Hello Drayton!
We have made it past the half-way mark for Term 1. Mrs Manley has been working hard with your children each week to prepare them for the Cross Country Carnival in Week 10. Our Drayton Dragons have definitely been returning from their PE lessons with red faces! Our Drayton State School Cross Country Carnival is on Monday 31st March (Week 10), we encourage families to come along, bring a picnic blanket and cheer on our Dragons as they fly by! A reminder to please remain behind the course bunting and allow the students to run their own race.
We receive constant communication from the Inner Downs Zone Sport team and I do occasionally miss the opportunity to share the trial information with students. IDZ sport is an option only for students who are aged 9-12years, behave according to our behavioural expectations at school (and will represent our school with pride), and who train outside of school hours in that specialised sport. If you believe you child meets these criteria and you would like them to have the opportunity to compete at the Inner Downs Trials when they occur, please have you child approach me at school with their sport and I will keep my eye out for when the trial information is released.
Thank you,
Kelsey Tonscheck

Term 1, 2025
What’s been happening
I am running the Bella Girls Junior program for some of our year five and six girls, on a Wednesday afternoon. “Bella” is the Italian word for “beautiful”. The program encourages girls to be beautiful in their character – the way we think, feel and behave. We are focusing on how to make and keep good friends, as well as being good friends ourselves. It’s great to have meaningful discussions around this topic and encourage the girls to think about how to apply it to their own friendships and other connections.
A Thought from Chappy
You’ve heard the expression, “take time to smell the roses.” Have you ever asked yourself why this is important?
This little phrase encourages us to appreciate the small moments and things in life that bring us joy.
Undoubtedly, we have times that are stressful and busy. We wonder if we’ll ever have time to rest again. It is during these times that we need to be the most deliberate about appreciating the things we notice along life’s journey. It could be thankfulness that your child thought about you and made something for you at school. It could be taking in that moment when they’ve fallen asleep on you in front of the television. What about those times when everyone in the room is laughing so hard, they can barely breathe? The sound of kookaburras laughing, a brightly blooming flower, the scent of home cooking on the breeze. Don’t overlook these things. Take a deliberate moment to think on them, to take a breath and relish them in the moment. Take a brief escape from the rush of life to remember that simple things are worth noticing. I hope you have some of those moments this week.
Thank You!
